The first-visit guide

Your first massage, without the guesswork.

You do not need to know the right terminology before you arrive. Start with how you want to spend the hour, then let a short conversation shape the appointment.

Choose a starting point, not a perfect answer.

If your main goal is to unwind, Swedish massage is a straightforward introduction. Oud Spa lists 30 minutes for $48, 60 minutes for $68 and 90 minutes for $98. The 60-minute option gives you more room to settle in than a short focused appointment. If you want firm work in a particular area, compare deep tissue instead: 30 minutes for $58, 60 for $78 or 90 for $108.

Think in ordinary language: “My shoulders feel tight after work,” “I prefer gentle pressure,” or “I would like a quiet hour.” Those details are more useful than guessing which technique sounds most advanced. You can call (925) 308-4609 before booking if the menu leaves you unsure.

Make the visit easy to fit into your day.

Wear something comfortable to change into afterward. Bring the information you would want a practitioner to know, including recent injuries, relevant medical conditions, medications and product sensitivities. There is no special outfit to buy and no need to rehearse a list of technical requests.

Leave enough space in your schedule for finding Suite I at 3850 Balfour Road, discussing your preferences and returning to the day without a rush. Appointment length and total time away from home are different things. Confirm any arrival instructions in your booking confirmation; do not assume an early arrival adds treatment time.

Know what you can ask for.

The American Massage Therapy Association describes privacy, appropriate draping and control over pressure as basic parts of a professional session. Undress only to your comfort level. Ask how you will be positioned and which areas will be worked on before the massage begins.

A useful first conversation includes areas to focus on, areas to leave alone, whether you prefer talking or quiet, and how you feel about oils or scents. You do not need a reason to ask for an adjustment. A small practical request, such as changing the face-cradle position, can make the whole visit more comfortable.

Keep the conversation open during the massage.

Your preference may change from one part of the body to another. “Lighter on that shoulder” is clearer than trying to endure a sensation you dislike. You can also ask the therapist to move on, pause or end the session. Consent continues throughout the appointment.

Choosing deep tissue does not commit you to the strongest possible pressure. Equally, choosing Swedish does not prevent you from mentioning a specific focus area. Tell the therapist what feels useful in that moment instead of trying to match an imagined standard.

Leave with useful notes for next time.

Take your time getting dressed and notice what you liked: the pace, pressure, focus areas and length. If you book again, those are the details to repeat. There is no universal first-visit schedule or requirement to commit to a package.

Oud Spa is open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM. Choose a time through the online booking menu, or call if you need help deciding. Massage is a wellness service; persistent, unexplained or worsening symptoms deserve medical assessment rather than another booking.

It can be a useful starting point when you want gentler to medium pressure and general relaxation. Oud Spa offers 30-, 60- and 90-minute Swedish appointments. Share your preferences before the session.

Can I keep some clothing on?

Yes. Discuss your comfort level and the planned work before changing. You should understand the draping and positioning before the massage starts.
